CONTENT DESIGN FOR NYU STUDENT AFFAIRS LANDING PAGES

I spearheaded the comprehensive redesign of NYU Student Affairs landing pages for 13 units, managing and executing every aspect of the project. My responsibilities included:

  • Conducting in-depth research on unit-specific resources

  • Crafting engaging copy tailored to students, parents, and faculty

  • Curating dynamic images that complemented the content

  • Creating interactive mockups for presentations to internal stakeholders and implementation on the live website

  • Collaborating with unit leaders to ensure each page authentically reflected their unit's mission and resources

Challenges and Resolutions

Navigating the college experience is inherently challenging, and NYU’s vast size adds to this complexity. Ensuring that students can easily find what they need is crucial. During my audit, I identified three major UX issues and developed targeted solutions.

Problem 1: Complex Click-Through Experience
NYU Student Affairs offers numerous resources and programs for student success, but their distribution across multiple pages created a fragmented information architecture and a cumbersome click-through experience. This inefficiency hampered information discoverability and increased cognitive load.

Solution 1: Streamlined Landing Pages
Leveraging my research on Student Affairs’ services, I optimized landing pages to spotlight key resources and initiatives that support student success. I added clear call-to-action buttons and direct links to improve navigation. Additionally, I wrote concise text to effectively introduce less familiar programs.

Problem 2: Inconsistent Layout Designs
The inconsistent placement of navigation elements and content led to a fragmented user experience across Student Affairs' webpages. This lack of uniformity resulted in ineffective task flows, causing users to spend excessive time searching for resources and struggling to complete their objectives.

Solution 2: Unified Layout Design and Streamlined Navigation
I developed a cohesive layout template for Student Affairs' webpages with strategically placed copy, buttons, and visuals, creating intuitive navigation patterns. This approach allowed users to easily locate and access resources, significantly enhancing their overall experience.

Problem 3: Absence of Visual and Textual Hierarchy
The lack of visual and textual hierarchy created difficulties in content processing. Without a clear structure and organization, there was an increased risk of content being inaccessible to users with screen readers.

Solution 3: Enhanced Content Hierarchy and Navigation
I established a consistent font hierarchy and used imagery to create page breaks and highlight content sections. These enhancements were aimed at improving readability, accessibility, and navigation for users of all abilities.
